Why Women Are More Prone With Receding Gums ?

Receding gums is a normal part of the aging process, however there are people that may experience it at their early years and even children. As gum disease is the most common cause of receding gums, toothbrush abrasion or harsh brushing and genetic factors are some of its causes. It is identified by feeling the top of the teeth at the gum line and if the tooth feels notched then you are likely to have a receding gums or gums that pulls away.
Women are more likely to experience receding gums, gingivitis and bleeding gums especially during their most vulnerable stages such as puberty, premenstrual, pregnancy and menopausal stages. What causes women to be at risk with receding gums and other periodontal or gum disease is the increase or unstable hormones during these cycles or stages in women.
Women need to pay close attention in having superior oral hygiene as to prevent gum disease, receding gums, gingivitis and bleeding gums especially during the vulnerable stages in their life. Having regular dental check up with the dentist can prevent early symptoms of receding gums to progress.
